Replaced a USB cable on my modded brawl stick. It starts the Xbox 360 but does nothing else after.

I connected all the colored cables except the grey one (the vid I watched said that wasn't necessary and only existed on madcatz.)


At first ALL the lights were lit up, then I connected the extra grey cord to the general copper mesh and it lit up the first player light. Still, no buttons or joystick input did anything. Help?
