Dual Shock 4 PadHack Thread - aka you should padhack the hfc4 pad instead.

UPDATE: Just padhack a hori fighting commander 4 instead.

So you want to add PS4 functionality to your arcade stick? Well too bad. Just wait until there is a third party pcb that is cheap and easy to wire up. Maybe we'll get lucky and there will be a firmware update to any of the
custom ps3 pcb's that are out in the market. Oh, you don't want to wait? You really want it now? Well the only option right now is to padhack a Dual Shock 4 controller. Luckily for us the pcb is common ground. Unluckily for us
the pcb is a pain in the ass to wire up and is quite unforgiving if you mess up. You thought the Xbox One pad hack was hard? This pad hack shits all over it. You accidentally burn off or rip off a contact pad on the ds4 and
you've just wasted $60. The only option after that is to find a via that traces to the contact pad that you've just destroyed. They are not easy to find nor solder to.

So if you think you have the skills or are looking for a challenge you have been warned. Don't hold me responsible if you damage your DS4.

With that being said, let the padhack begin! We will start out with preparing the ds4 pcb.

To begin opening up the DS4 you must unscrew the four screws on the back of the pad.
IMG_0336_zps442ab332.jpg

You'll need to use a size #0, #00, or #000 Phillips head screwdriver. If you don't own one then I suggest buying a Husky precision screwdriver set.
IMG_0337_zps65fe8af9.jpg

You'll need to use a little force to pull apart the shell, but don't pull the shells too far apart too fast. There is a ribbon cable connecting the usb jack to the ds4 pcb. Pull the ribbon cable out first. Then unplug the

lithium ion battery pack. Then cut off the rumble motor wires.
IMG_0338_zps823d7882.jpg

Circled is one more screw that holds the pcb to the shell.
IMG_0339_zpsced0a56e.jpg

Be careful as you lift the pcb out. There is still one more ribbon cable left that needs to be unplugged. It might be a bit difficult to unplug with your finger so using tweezers or forceps will make things easier.
IMG_0340_zpsde1f7a4d.jpg

If you have very tight space limitations inside your case you'll probably will want to desolder the analog jacks and neutralize the axis with 10k ohm resistors. However, for most applications just cutting the stubs and gluing
the stick in place will suffice.
IMG_0341_zpsb1f0d7c5.jpg

If you want to use the micro usb jack, and I suggest you do, then you'll need to unscrew four screws that hold it in place. The top two have to be removed first. Then the led light thingy can be removed to gain access to the
bottom two screws.
IMG_0342_zps8f1dea6e.jpg

Remove and set aside the micro usb jack.
IMG_0343_zpsf0d6dec8.jpg

This is where you'll be wiring up the joystick and buttons to. Looks fun doesn't it?
IMG_0345_zps3e268abe.jpg

To gain access to the copper contact pads the carbon residue has to be scraped off.
IMG_0346_zpse7c0faea.jpg

I have a pick set that I got from radio shack that I use to scrape off the carbon pads. The one on the left I accidentally broke in half from trying to pry something off. I suggest not using these picks to pry stuff off.
IMG_0348_zpsb592d658.jpg

Here's the pinout for the 18 contact pads and which need to be scraped. It is the same for all the model revisions 001, 011, and 020.
1-(Don't worry about me)
2-L1 (needs inverting)
3-10k ohm to pad4
4-L2
5-right
6-up
7-left
8-down
9-ground (Don't worry about scraping me either)
10-home
11-x
12-circle
13-triangle
14-square
15-(Don't worry about me too)
16-R1 (needs inverting)
17-10k ohm to pad18
18-R2
IMG_0349_zps2f5337b0.jpg

Tin the contact pads. Use flux as necessary.
IMG_0350_zps46ac45f6.jpg

Tin the two very small contact spots in the rectangle for Select.
IMG_0351_zps5e8432e9.jpg

Tin the two very small contact spots in the rectangle for Start.
IMG_0352_zps4cd67d9f.jpg

Look at this. This is the ribbon connector for the usb jack. See how simple this is? Want to see how hard your life will be if you don't use this? Just check out the next picture.
IMG_0354_zps133a474f.jpg

These are the four pins you will have to solder to if you don't want to use the micro usb jack. Pretty small and cramped there.
Note this pin out is for the JDM-001 model and the pictures will reference to that model.
8- Vcc
10- D-
12- D+
14- GND

Pin out for the 011 and 020:
7- Vcc
8- Vcc
9- Gnd
10- D-
11- D+
12- Gnd

IMG_0353_zpsdb05b9bc.jpg

Of coarse removing the ribbon connector will make soldering to the contact pads much easier. This route might be necessary if you are limited in case space. In which case you'd have to remove the battery jack too.

Now the DS4 pcb is all prepared to begin the wiring!

Custom Madcatz TE panels and plexis

Hey guys I've been doing some searching and I'm trying to find a way to get a hitbox panel for my Madcatz TE that is a panel and plexiglass seperate so I can add custom art. I know about Arts plexiglass and that's what I'm currently using. I'm making this even harder by wanting a custom made one since I prefer 30mm with the vewlix style. I found http://arcadeforge.net/Arcade-Control-Panel/Madcatz-TE-Faceplates/Madcatz-TE-Hitbox-Button-Layout-Metal-Replacement::55.html but it doesn't meet those preferences and it's EU based. If anyone has any ideas on where I should go or who I should talk to I would greatly appreciate it.

Ended up emailing the guys at arcadeforge and they do make custom orders on the panels so I think I'll be going that route.

Wire ripped out of quick disconnect

When I was replacing my buttons I accidentally ripped the wire out of the quick disconnect because I'm a dumbass. What would I have to do to reconnect the wire? Or what would I need to buy to replace it? The wires were really easy to disconnect and reconnect to the actual stick so I'm sure there is something I could buy. Pics of the quick disconnect and the wire are down below.

Question concerning Cthulu PCB's handling of d-pad input on PS3

$

I noticed something very strange with my PS3/multi-console Cthulu PCB, for some strange reason, it may be registering d-pad inputs differently than other PCB's.

some examples:

At the character selection screen in Tekken Tag 1 (part of Tekken Hybrid), I noticed the game will not register inputs for up and down, forcing me to pick characters from the first row. However, the game recognizes up and down inputs while I'm in a match. My other sticks, work percectly fine though.

In Tekken 6's Scenario Campaign mode, my Cthulu stick only registers movement in Free-Movement mode instead of the normal fighting-based movement you would get from using the d-pad. I tested scenario campaign out on another stick, and all joystick movements were being registered as if it were done with a d-pad.

Based on my tests from Tekken 6, is it safe to assume that the Cthulu is registering directional movements from the left analog stick, or would it be something else creating this issue? Is there any way to fix this shit, because it's really annoying and I also like the stick that uses the Cthulu.

PS360+ issue need help or suggestions

Hey everyone,
My PS360+ stick (old giantsword) just quit working today. It was working fine last time I used it a couple of weeks ago. I plugged it into my computer today and it does not register. The light on the board flashes once then turns off. I'm not experienced at all with boards or technically inclined. Is it dead? Should I trash the stick and get a new one? Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips? Thanks!

Razer Atrox (XBox One): Change physical button layout.

In interesting in modding my Razer Atrox (XBone version). I want to change the button layout from the default vewlix layout.

My first choice is to change the buttons (kick/punchs, not the joystick) to the hitbox layout, including changing the size to 24mm.
http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0166/4408/products/1-5_1024x1024.png?v=1458335842

The second choice is the Namco Noir layout, like the eTokki Omni has (which are 30mm buttons):
http://www.etokki.com/image/cache/catalog/omni_6_sa-500x500.jpg

From the construction of the Atrox, it seems that I would need to change holes of the top plexy-glass, as well as the panel below the plexy to which the buttons and the joystick attach. The following picture is a little dark, but it shows the button attachment pannel is removable:
http://assets.razerzone.com/eeimages/products/17208/rzr_atrox_xbox1_v3.png

Anyone has tips on how I could get the panels for this mod: the top plexy and the button attachment panel?

If there's a different way I could go about this mod, I'm open to suggestions.

PC Compatibility discussion thread.

Since there so many posts and threads asking about PC compatibility I felt I should make the effort of compiling it all into a single thread.
I going to focus mostly on the various Windows OS, as Linux and Mac OS is a slightly different ball game but if you know any Linux or Mac solutions please contribute.

I will cover as many areas as I can. Feel free to add to the list.
Lets keep the info up todate here, so when it comes to the older Mad Catz TE sticks and UHCI issues, the PCI solution is no longer as viable as it used to be.

Are screws holding down the acrylic necessary? (Qanba Q1)

$

Hey guys! My humblest apologies if this was answered elsewhere, I promise I did give the search engine a try!

I just got a Qanba Q1--I wanted a fairly inexpensive stick that would be easy to modify with some custom art. I took it all apart and applied a "lami label" from FedEx/Kinko's, and it worked out great! But as I was cutting holes in my art, it occurred to me that the screws that hold down the acrylic sheet maybe aren't necessary, since the buttons also hold it down to the case quite firmly. So I left them out! Less holes in the art seemed like a good thing to me, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something I'd regret, either.

Thanks!

KOF 14 not displaying right?

So, I just bought KOF14 and I'm having some technical problems with it. It doesn't fit on my screen. Stuff around the edges of the screen get cut off, e.g. character names and portraits in fights.

I'm using a 720p TV with a HDMI connection. I can't find any way to fix it in the games options, or my TV options. No other games I've played have similar problems. I can't find anyone else having this issue.
Does KOF14 simply not display correctly on 720p screens, or do is there something simple I'm missing?
Is anyone else having this problem?

Hitbox and brook universal or converters?

Hi all, so I was considering grabbing a hitbox or possibly building one.

If I buy an official one, does anyone know if it's possible to mod it and get it working with the Brook universal fighting board? I kinda doubt the converters would work since the hitbox uses a Brook board already.
I'm guessing adding the universal fighting board wouldn't be difficult just trying to confirm.

Some initial Google searching didn't quite give me the info I need.

I expect the converters likely wouldn't work but that the universal fighting board would work just like any other stick.
